#FoodPorn – Social Media’s Nudge to Overeating? :

If you’ve spent the last hour aggressively scrolling through insta-perfect images of all things foodporn-esque trying to decipher which meal to demolish on your next gastronomic endeavour, you’re not alone… ‘Foodstagramming’, or social media’s way of revealing your inner culinary eye, has become one of its most ubiquitous trends. At the time of writing there was over 104,190,242 posts using #foodporn on instagram alone, not to mention everything else out there on twitter, facebook, snapchat, reddit and more… To give you an idea of just how many that is, a survey conducted in 2013 found that over 90 new photos with this same hashtag were uploaded every minute — or 1.5 every second! Cooking with seasonal produce is always a great place to start, especially when you’re stuck with the age old question of ‘what’s for dinner?’ Cooking with fruits and vegetables that are in season means that you can get produce when it’s at its highest quality. It’s also usually cheaper to buy, because it is in abundance from suppliers, and that means that it’s travelled less food miles. Bringing home the bacon: What’s the Risk? :

Recent headlines last week may have caused some concern about processed meat consumption and bowel cancer risk. Not your beloved bacon! Who wants to give that up? The WHO findings are not an entirely new discovery, health professionals have been warning of the consequences of over consumption of processed meats for some time. Processed meats include bacon, sausages, ham and salami. Typically with these foods, during the manufacturing process, nitrates can be added to the meat to act as a preservative and improve their shelf life, taste and colour. Jessica Gray’s Meal Prep Tips :

1: Prep day On Mondays I prepare all of my extras and sides to go with my pouch meals. I cook roughly 1.5kg of mixed fibrous vegetables and 1kg of mixed roasted or steamed sweet potato and carrot. This is the food that I add to my Dineamic meals throughout the day. More carbohydrate based vegetables during the day and more fibrous at night. This saves me time and energy during the week because all my meals are ready to be heated and eaten. You may have seen the term ‘cold pressed juices’ being thrown around a lot lately – have you ever wondered exactly what cold pressed is? Cold pressed refers to a particular process for extracting juice from fruit and vegetables.
