From a young age we’ve always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But when we grow older we don’t always take note of that advice.

People who skip breakfast are more likely to be overweight. Eating first thing in the morning revs up your metabolism and really gets you going for the day.

Some research goes as far to suggest that we should be consuming half our daily kilojoule intake in the morning — that’s a pretty big breakfast!

Between getting ready for work, getting the kids off to school, jumping on the a crowded train, or grinding through morning traffic, it can be all too tempting to just skip eating in the morning all together.

Below we’ve got some great healthy and delicious breakfast ideas, that are just too good to miss, and are a sure fire way to see you through the morning into the day ahead.

— Apple and cinnamon pancakes with fresh fruit and yoghourt.

— Layered parfaits of canned or fresh fruit, yoghourt, drizzled honey and crushed pistachio nuts.

— Ramekins lined with baby spinach, sliced mushrooms, cracked egg and topped with cracked pepper – bake in oven until set.

— Toasted bagels with smoked salmon and light cream cheese.

— Scrambled eggs on Turkish toast.

— Bircher muesli – soak oats overnight in natural yoghourt and milk.  In the morning add chopped apple, sliced banana, sultanas and flaked almonds, drizzle with honey.
